Eddie Howe discussed the strategy of trading players, both incoming and outgoing, as being crucial for Newcastle United’s model. This exchange of players is aimed at helping the club grow. Selling players has been a challenge for Newcastle, and the club attempted to transfer Miguel Almiron over the summer. Almiron, who had been approached by MLS side Charlotte FC, is facing the possibility of a move away from Newcastle as he struggles to get playing time.
Eddie Howe said “What I will say on that is trading is essential. Both in and out – to the model of PSR. We are trying to grow them so I think trading in and out is going to be essential.”
Miguel Almiron has not been on the field for six consecutive games, and concerns are growing in Paraguay regarding his ability to help the national team qualify for the 2026 World Cup. There is pressure for him to leave Newcastle for the sake of his career. Reports from Paraguay suggest that he is not being utilized effectively at Newcastle during what should be the prime years of his career. Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell are contemplating a move that could open new opportunities for both the club and Almiron.
Eddie Howe emphasized Almiron’s importance to the team and his positive role in the dressing room, even amid speculation of Almiron’s transfer. Howe expressed his hopes for the player to have a successful season at Newcastle.
Eddie Howe said “We’re going to have to be clever with what we do. I’m sure that speculation would have been difficult to manage. He’s very much with us, we value his qualities and what he brings and I hope he has a great season,”
Almiron’s agent highlighted that the player is content to remain at Newcastle unless a satisfactory offer arises. Almiron, who has been with Newcastle for nearly six years, will evaluate opportunities if any clubs express interest in him.
Almiron’s agent said “The player has a contract until 2026 and is happy to stay put if an acceptable offer does not emerge. Should a suitor make their interest known, the former MLS flyer will consider departing after almost six years at Newcastle.”
