Gabby Agbonlahor criticized the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules as Aston Villa faced difficulties due to their poor form and financial constraints, which forced them to sell players before buying new ones.
Gabby Agbonlahor said “How can you as a club, Aston Villa, finish in the top four and because of the stupid PSR have to sell before you buy?”
Gabby Agbonlahor reflected on Aston Villa’s financial struggles in relation to upgrading their squad, including the necessity to sell key players like Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby, even after achieving a top-four finish in the previous season.
Gabby Agbonlahor said “I remember being at Villa at the end of [last] season before the semi final of the Conference League and speaking to someone at the club and [they said], ‘Gabby, we’ve got to sell before we even think of buying’. You get top four and you want to go again; you want to try and fight for top two, top three, and you have to sell your best player, Douglas Luiz. You have to sell Moussa Diaby.”
