UFC icon Conor McGregor made a star appearance at St James’ Park, where he witnessed Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United. This defeat further dented the Gunners’ recent form. Arsenal’s last league victory was recorded on October 5 against Southampton, and they now find themselves seven points behind league leaders Liverpool. The team currently sits below Nottingham Forest on the table. By the end of the weekend, Arsenal could potentially drop to sixth if Aston Villa and Chelsea win their respective fixtures. McGregor’s appearance coincided with his upcoming Bareknuckle event in Newcastle on Saturday night. The renowned athlete is a regular spectator of Arsenal matches this season, which led to a playful response from the Magpies on Instagram.
Newcastle cheekily drew upon McGregor’s infamous phrase post his Eddie Alvarez fight in 2016, adding on Instagram: “@thenotoriousmma, On this post, we’d like to take this chance to apologise…to absolutely nobody.”
During the post-match press conference, Mikel Arteta was asked whether his squad is feeling the pressure in their title pursuit.
Mikel Arteta said, “I didn’t feel that. I think I would have felt it at the beginning of the game. I didn’t have that feeling. What I did feel was that when we fell behind, it we lacked threat and more capacity to go and hurt them. We weren’t consistent enough and when we gave the ball away we were in transition and allowed them to run or sustain attacks. It’s as easy as that.”
