Tottenham Hotspur is expected to miss the services of Micky van de Ven for the upcoming weeks after he sustained a new hamstring injury during a match against Manchester City. The Netherlands international felt the strain early in the Carabao Cup clash, leading manager Ange Postecoglou to quickly substitute him with Destiny Udogie. Van de Ven showed visible emotion after the injury but was later seen in the Tottenham dugout during the second half. Despite initial concerns over his availability for the game against Aston Villa, hopes were high that the injury wasn’t serious. Manager Ange Postecoglou later addressed the situation, alleviating any lasting worries.
Ange Postecoglou said, “The main one is Micky and he has sort of strained a hamstring. It is not too serious but probably after the international break for him. He was disappointed obviously. He was really looking forward to the game so he was a bit emotional. It is definitely not, knock-on-wood, a bad one like last time which kept him out for quite a while. He will work hard and the good thing is there is an international break in there which is an extra two weeks for us. So, hopefully, it means he doesn’t miss too much football.”
Based on Postecoglou’s candid update, Tottenham will also be without van de Ven for the Europa League match against Galatasaray next Thursday and their final Premier League encounter before the November international break against Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Although van de Ven might have been rested for the European fixture in Turkey, his absence in the two upcoming domestic games is significant. After the two-week break, Spurs are scheduled to face the reigning champions at the Etihad Stadium. In van de Ven’s absence, Radu Dragusin demonstrated his competency during the game against Pep Guardiola’s side, further highlighting his abilities.
