Saints secured a thrilling 3-2 victory against Championship side Stoke City on Tuesday evening. Despite initially blowing a two-goal lead, they managed to clinch the win, thanks to a late goal from James Bree. The game saw Taylor Harwood-Bellis open the scoring before Adam Armstrong, returning to the starting lineup, successfully converted a penalty.
Manager Martin made significant changes to his lineup, introducing six new faces following their narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City. This provided an opportunity for other players to make an impression from the bench.
When asked about individual performances and whether any player gave him food for thought, Martin provided his insights.
Russell Martin said, “He’s feeling it a bit now so we’ll have to see how he recovers in the next few days. I don’t think we learned anything new today. I think some people performed well in moments and then others show why they’re not quite in the team yet. But they can definitely help us. People like Joe Aribo and Adam Armstrong, it was and that, it was really important to get 90 minutes into or 80 odd minutes.”
