The Blues secured a victory against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson. Despite the win, the game was overshadowed by several clashes with referee Simon Hooper. Six players and manager Enzo Maresca received yellow cards. In the final 10 minutes, Noni Madueke, Robert Sanchez, and Pedro Neto were booked, while Maresca and Christopher Nkunku were cautioned during injury time. As a result, Chelsea is expected to face another substantial fine, somewhat blemishing the victory.
In a statement, the FA confirmed, “This will be a £75k fine for Chelsea for 6+ cautioned in today’s game (third multi-participant misconduct of the season).”
Palmer’s early goal was rescinded by VAR, but Jackson put the Blues ahead at the 18-minute mark. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak equalized shortly after, but Palmer secured Chelsea’s win with a shot just inside the box.
