Alexander Isak, Newcastle United’s chief striker, is currently burdened with the expectations of leading the team’s attacking front. Despite a slow start to the season with only one goal, contrasting sharply with his impressive 24-goal tally from the previous term, Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, remains optimistic. A recent injury—a broken toe—has limited Isak’s playtime, yet his return to the pitch against Brighton signals a hopeful comeback. In this match, despite several opportunities, Isak was unable to score, a point of frustration for both him and his team. However, Eddie Howe, showing confidence in Isak’s capability, assures that the dry spell will end soon.
Eddie Howe said, “He knows the burden of being the No 9. At Newcastle, you do carry an extra weight with that, but I think he’s done that brilliantly since he’s been here and we need to support him and give him chances. The Brighton game, I was really pleased with our attacking output bar the finish or the last pass. I think we’ve had 60-odd shots in four games. We should have scored; we haven’t. I’ve been through very similar periods many times before. Sometimes there’s a reason for it, sometimes it just happens. But you have to back the players that we have to score goals. We have some outstanding attacking players within our squad.”
In advance of Newcastle’s upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea, Howe’s confidence in the team’s attacking potential remains strong, emphasizing the need for persistence and faith in their forward players to rediscover their proficiency in scoring.
