Newcastle United have confirmed that Anthony Gordon has signed a long-term contract at St James’ Park, securing the England international player as he enters the peak years of his career. Although his £45 million price tag was questioned by critics in 2023, Gordon has proven his worth by scoring 15 times in 74 appearances and registering 11 assists. Additionally, Gordon ascended to the England senior team and secured a place in the Euro 2024 squad last summer. Despite the possibility of joining Liverpool in the summer as Newcastle sought to meet their Profit and Sustainability Rules targets, no deal materialized. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has since been keen to secure the international star for the long term. After signing his new multi-year deal, Anthony Gordon expressed his excitement and ambitions for the future:
Anthony Gordon said, “I just think the club’s in a great place. Since the takeover it’s just been up and up. Me and the gaffer are a perfect match in terms of style of play. I love it here. I’m very happy here, I like living here, the team is very suited to me – and I’m here to win a trophy. The short story is we need to win a trophy. Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable because the fans have waited so long. To be part of that team who finally does it is a massive goal of mine.”
According to manager Eddie Howe, Gordon has grown as a player and a person during his time at Newcastle United. He is dedicated to improving himself and the team, and his quality performances and high work-rate have established a special connection with the supporters.
