Nottingham Forest’s talismanic midfielder Roy Keane was subject to interest for Arsenal. The north London club was contemplating a serious bid for the Irish star and was prepared to shell out £5 million bid to lure him out from Forest. Keane had refused to sign a new contract as his current deal was expiring in 18 months’ time and the fact that he was not happy having to play center back for Forest as well as the current slump in form. There were many admirers of Keane with AC Milan having publicly stated that they were willing to pay more than anyone else to secure his signature. Forest manager Brian Clough had made it clear that the jewel in his crown was not for sale at any price.
