Unai Emery’s side is aiming for their third consecutive victory in the Champions League as they face Bologna on Tuesday night. Having already secured wins against BSC Young Boys and Bayern Munich, a victory in this match would bring Aston Villa closer to qualifying for the knockout stages.
During a press conference this afternoon, one of Villa’s key players, Matty Cash, shared his thoughts on the team’s progress and ambitions.
Matty Cash said, “I probably didn’t expect to be here when I signed. In the last four years, the club has gone through the roof. Quality in every department has gone up, and the club hasn’t got a ceiling. It can go all the way to the top. Obviously, we are playing Champions League football, and it is a building block. The manager is a big part of getting here. Consistency in the league has been key. We weren’t consistent with the last few managers, no disrespect. But now the consistency and the demands the manager puts on us to win is the most important thing. The manager has given a platform to perform. Meetings, videos, and the detail he goes into to make sure we are ready, it all ties into a major part of why we’re here. We want to keep winning and performing. The Premier League is key to get fourth position to get Champions League football, then when we are here, enjoy it, play with freedom, express ourselves, and get as many results as we can. You have to perform otherwise you don’t play. The manager is massive on that. Our squad now is so great in all positions. We are strong, and we will need that with Premier League, Champions League, and cup games. There will be a lot of rotation, and everyone needs to be ready to perform.”
