Dan Burn, a defender for Newcastle United, has found a new perspective away from the pressures of social media. Once searching for ‘gratification’ online, Burn now prioritizes the opinions of those closest to him. Notably, he is one of the few Newcastle players without an Instagram account or a page on X. Burn has shared how stepping back from social media ‘changes your perspective’ because it allows you to ‘look after yourself’ instead of ‘thinking about what’s going on all the time out there.’
Dan Burn said: “The thing is with social media, it doesn’t matter how many good things you see. It only takes one person to say something bad and that can change your mood instantly. Now I think, ‘Why was I bothered about it so much?’ But you just want that gratification straight away where, ‘He played well today. He’s good.’ Whereas, now, my perspective has changed.”
