Premier League face ‘disastrous’ Man City charges outcome

Stefan Borson, a former financial advisor at Manchester City, has expressed concerns over the potential outcomes of the ongoing proceedings against the club. With 115 charges of financial misconduct alleged against Manchester City, clubs such as Nottingham Forest are keeping a close watch on the proceedings, which are being contested in a 10-week hearing.

Additionally, a separate legal battle between City and the Premier League concerning Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules concluded this week. In this case, both parties seemed to claim victory, yet the judgment declared the regulations ‘unlawful’ and necessitated amendments. This marks the second legal defeat for the Premier League within months. Earlier, in September, Leicester City successfully challenged the league regarding alleged violations of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), a decision that the league found surprising and disappointing. Nottingham Forest also experienced PSR issues, having faced a points deduction last season.

Stefan Borson said, “If they lose again it is going to be a big problem for them. If they were to lose that one it would be monumental. If you go round making that type of allegation over a very long period against the club that has won the majority of the titles in the last ten years. If City win the case it is still a disastrous situation, they are boxed in here either way and that is the problem they have got.”

The consequences for Manchester City, should they be found guilty, could range from a substantial fine to a points deduction, or even expulsion from the league.
