Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed that midfielder Rodri will be out for “a little while” after suffering a knee injury during City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. Rodri limped off after 21 minutes, and there are concerns from City fans that he could be sidelined for a significant period. However, Guardiola explained that they are still waiting for the final diagnosis from the medical team.
Pep Guardiola said “We are still waiting for the decision of the doctors [to see] exactly what he has. When we know it, the club or myself will announce it.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also dealing with the absence of their captain Martin Odegaard, with Mikel Arteta indicating that Odegaard’s recovery timeline is expected to be measured in weeks rather than months. Reports suggest that the Norwegian midfielder could be out until November, missing key games until after the October international break.
On a more positive note for Arsenal, Raheem Sterling, a deadline-day recruit, could make his first start in Wednesday’s League Cup match against Bolton Wanderers. Arteta commented on Sterling’s readiness, saying:
Pep Guardiola said ““He’s had a few minutes already, and tomorrow he has another opportunity. He’s ready and really hungry to have more minutes and start to impact the team in the way he can.”
