Dean Saunders and Dalian Atkinson wasted the chances as Aston Villa were held to a goalless draw by West Midlands rivals Coventry. The £4 million strikers were off-target time and time again, as Coventry became the only unbeaten side left in the FA Premiership.
It was hardly a platform to send Villa off for their opening UEFA cup tie against Slovan Bratislava three days later. Atkinson spurned the best chance of all, with a glaring miss six minutes from time, slicing a half volley way off the mark after finding himself unmarked on the penalty spot.
