Is Firminho the “prodigal son” of Jurgen Klopp ?

This week Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino says he’s happy to play where manager Jurgen Klopp wants him. Firmino, who joined from Hoffenheim for around £29million in the summer of 2015, initially started out as an attacking midfielder at Anfield before being converted into a striker when Klopp moved to Merseyside later that year.
Roberto Firmino said “That is just me, my personality, to try to be a good and humble guy. To try to help my team in the best way with assists and goals. I like that, I like to win all the time, and for that I will always be like this. I am a guy who respects my position on the pitch. Where the team needs me, I will play. As a No.9, but sometimes I play as a No.10, and I try to give my best. As I mentioned before, I always want to help my team as best as I can and to always be chasing the win, always winning games. That is what matters the most. I was a midfielder,” he said when asked where he played at the youth level. For a while I played as a central defender, but whenever I got the ball I would start to dribble and to nutmeg people and join the attack. So every year I evolved a little bit further forward. Once I got to the U17s, I became a No.10, which was the position I held up until recently—when I established myself as a centre-forward.”

David Longwell, who for 15 years oversaw the talent factory at St Mirren from which McGinn emerged has issued a bold statement today that he never come across a kid quite like John McGinn of Aston Villa club.
David Longwell said ” He just had this aptitude for playing football, recalling in detail a six-year-old who would repeatedly head the ball with all the ferocity of battle-hardened centre-half. There’s a lot that’s made him who and what he is, but that personality was always there, even since a young, young kid. John went through a really hard growing spell. Everybody grows and develops at different times. His body, it was really difficult for him. For a period of time, one part of his body grew, the other didn’t, it was tough. But you need to show patience and allow time to develop. He’ll take the ball off the back four to start the game, he could get in the box and be the player who drives his team up the field, as well as putting a foot in defensively. And while he obviously wasn’t the player he is now, you could see potential. When you start adding in his technical qualities that was what stood out – his ability to be a genuine box to box midfield player. Those technical qualities are perhaps the aspects of McGinn’s game that weren’t fully appreciated until he left for Villa, unfairly dismissed by some in Scotland as nothing more than ‘a runner’, a tag that’s known to have irked him.”

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: For PREMIER LEAGUE FAN unaware of who David Longwell is, he is veteran youth academy coach whose career running youth academies spans four clubs, two continents and thousands of children over more than 20 years. David notably brought through a large number of young players up and into the first team. Some of Longwell’s graduates went on to win the Scottish League Cup with St Mirren in 2013 including current Scottish international John McGinn. Longwell remarkably achieved player sales from academy graduates in the millions during his tenure. Longwell’s tireless efforts at St Mirren earned the Academy a Gold Level Award for the last three years of his time at the club which was a huge achievement. David also has every coaching qualification including the UEFA Pro Licence ,Youth Directors Award and Youth Licence.

Who are the key players to define Wolves season ?

After a slow start and bearing the burden of Europa League qualification, Nuno’s side Wolves have picked up 16 points from their opening 12 Premier League fixtures.
There are key players who have defined and will continue to play a key role in Wolves season this year –
Adama Traore – He has been wolves’ player of the season with stand out performance against Manchester City which will forever remain as highlight of the season after the defending champions were beaten in their own backyard. Traore has become a vital cog in Nuno’s counter attacking plan and whether utilized at right wing-back or as part of the front three, he has thrived.
Rui Patricio – The Portuguese came to the club in the summer of 2018 with a reputation as one of the best keepers in Europe and his start to the season has done nothing to harm that opinion. Since the beginning of the season, the Portuguese stalwart has been pivotal in Wolves’ steady climb up the table. One area that had been pinpointed for improvement was his distribution, but this season there have been no such issues. Absolutely irreplaceable.
Raul Jimenez – The 28-year-old has enjoyed a stunning year helping Wolves finish seventh in the Premier League, reach an FA Cup semi-final and his goals this season saw the club qualify for the Europa League Group Stages. He looked a little jaded at the beginning of the season but he’s benefited hugely from a rest during October’s international break. Jimenez has scored five in his last six matches for Wolves to take his tally to 13 across all competitions this season.

Their super agent “Jorge Mendes” had played a key role in getting this team what was required at-least for now and at-least in the budget they have. Under Nuno Espirito Santo they play with a free-flowing style through ball-playing midfielders Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho and their striker Raul Jimenez has proved himself worthy of Premier League quality. Only challenge for Wolves will be the fixtures demand which will go up as they fight out festive period fixture with Europa League final set of group matches.
