Newcastle’s Mick Quinn Began a month long loan spell at Coventry in a bid to revive his career

Newcastle United striker Mick Quinn began a month-long loan at Premier League Coventry believing his career was about to be relaunched. The United Marksman, who had been unable to find a permanent birth under manager Kevin Keegan was determined to show that he could still score goals at the highest level. And he was likely to make his debut in Coventry colors soon when Bobby Gould’s side took on Manchester City at Highfield Road.

Dire form in front of goal was leading Manchester United to buy a striker despite top players rejecting them

Manchester United’s dire form in front of the goal was so bad that they had slipped to 10th in the league and had been knocked out of the UEFA and Coca Cola cups early. Mark Hughes and Brian Mcclair were Alex Ferguson’s preferred strike partnership and had started 39 games between them that term only grabbing seven goals. Mcclair had suffered a complete barren run having failed to find the net in the previous 13 outings. It had made United willing to spend even £6 million in the transfer window but none of top English strikers  came their way. Alan Shearer chose Blackburn over United and they were snubbed by David Hirst to move from Sheffield Wednesday.

Arsenal Midfielder John Jensen brushed off Liverpool’s chances to win the title

Liverpool’s chances of lifting the premier league championship were given the brush off by Arsenal’s Danish Midfielder John Jensen. Jensen, signed by George Graham for £1 million in the summers said “Liverpool had lost too many games already and are nine or ten points behind us. Manchester United and Leeds are also well behind. If they lose two more games its game over for them. I think it is between us, Aston Villa, QPR or Blackburn.”

Frustrated Ian Wright was bad news for Leeds United who could bear the brunt of Arsenal striker’s barren run for England

Ian Wright’s seventh successive blank for England could mean trouble for Leeds as he would be looking to take out his frustration with the three lions and celebrate his 250th league starts with Arsenal in style. The Gunners had rocketed into second place after a run of six wins and Ian Wright had been central to that. Leeds, on the other hand, were struggling to defend their championship crown from the previous season.
