Dean Smith shares insight of his coaching staff at Aston Villa !!

[hr]

The Villa manager Dean Smith sits relaxed and at home at the training ground of the club he supported as a boy. He believes his club  deserve more points for performance put up by team and his  coaching staff is well equipped for the club to make improvements which is the motto of club and the owners.

The foundations for head coach Dean Smith’s coaching started with his long-term assistant coach Richard O’Kelly’s partnership in the late ‘80s. O’Kelly was the senior striker and Smith the apprentice who would go on to become the Saddlers’ youngest ever captain. The two got together again when Dean Smith became coach in late 2011 and since then have been working together expect brief periods.

Villa’s head coach and his No.2 have differing personalities. Smith is very measured and laid back, whereas O’Kelly, 62, is full of energy and keen to keep the players on their toes. Alongside the desire to bring an attractive style of football to Villa Park, Smith and O’Kelly’s trust in young players a lot. A large chunk of Villa’s under-23s and under-18s have been invited to train with the first team, while Smith is attending as many development matches as humanly possible. Smith and O’Kelly have always encouraged their players to think for themselves, whether it’s on the pitch or off it. As far as training goes, O’Kelly often takes the lead in sessions with Smith observing intently and chipping in when and where he sees fit.

Dean Smith also has a spaniard Jesus Garcia Pitarch who was appointed Villa’s first sporting director in January 2019. ,but it’s understood Smith still played the leading role in identifying the club’s January signings.

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: A good premier league team’s coaching staff is not just made of head coach himself. It is a team which is as important as the players team who are playing on the pitch. It involves various roles which include “Assistant Manager”, “Goalkeeping Coach”, “Chief Analyst”, “Fitness Coach”, “Conditioning Coach”, “Chef/Nutritionist”,  “Physiotherapist”, “Masseur”,  “Scout”, “Kit Manager”, “Sporting Director” and last but not least “Youth Team Coach”. It is a squad as big as the playing 11 whose performances matter off the pitch for club to be successful.

How will Steve Bruce and Newcastle survive  premier league season  ?

[hr]

Steve Bruce has faced a tough challenge during his first three months in charge of the Magpies, in what was meant to be a dream job for the boyhood Newcastle fan. However his team may have turned a corner with the performance and result against West Ham. A key to that were the front-three who showed that when on top form they can be a handful for any opponent. This may be key to survival for Newcastle and Steve Bruce’s future at Magpies.

From day one, some fans were against him as they thought the board had downgraded from a quality manager –  Rafa Benitez.  They also perceived that Bruce was given money to spend but he was unable or did not have skills and connections to spend that money on quality replacements.  Bruce inherited a squad which scored just 42 goals in the league, yet lost 23 goals from that total with the departures of Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon. With all of this background, Steve Bruce has done well in parts, and proved that much of the criticism aimed his way has been unwarranted. He has maintained faith in both his system and his players, and could be about to reap the rewards, starting with Newcastle’s fine display against the Hammers on Saturday, a game they very easily could have led 3-0 at half-time. With the front three scoring just once between them in ten league games prior to the visit to the London Stadium, some managers would have decided to withdraw them from the team – but not Bruce. The former Manchester United player has built much of his career on effective man-management.

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: According to us , Bruce knows the limitations of his squad, and should be praised rather than ridiculed for operating with a system which best suits them. Players like Jetro Willems and Saint-Maximin are beginning to excel under him, whilst his handling of Matty Longstaff and Jonjo Shelvey has also resulted in match-winning moments against Man United and West Ham respectively. Also not to be discounted is huge experience that Steve Bruce has of both up’s and downs in English Premier League. The Corbridge-born former Manchester United defender is a Geordie who has managed arch-rivals Sunderland as well as Sheffield United, Huddersfield, Wigan, Crystal Palace, Birmingham and Hull with varying degrees of success.

Has Marco Silva found his defensive leader ?

[hr]

Everton boss Marco Silva may have seen something in Mason Holgate which makes him a better fit at centre-back than Michael Keane. Silva is currently looking for a defensive leader who can be relied to build a successful performance on the pitch and move Everton out of the rut they are currently in.

Holgate, who was shipped out on loan to West Brom during the second half of last season, has played a total of 55 times for Everton since joining from Barnsley, 42 of those appearances coming in the Premier League. Meanwhile, England international Keane has played 12 times across all competitions this season, with 85 games under his belt for the Toffees since moving from Burnley. However lately Holgate is the one on pitch as he has played seven times across all competitions this season, even netting his first ever Toffees goal in the 2-0 League Cup win over Watford. Marco Silva may be believing that “Young lad has been doing well in training, has helped Everton in keeping defense tight so just switch it up a little bit”. Holgate also has a slightly better relationship with Yerry Mina and with the goalkeeper Pickford.

[hr]

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: I  don’t think  Keane has done anything massively wrong and there’s not an awful lot different  between Keane and Holgate. However, there’s obviously something that Marco Silva’s seen to make the switch. A squad is well performing not just with nice words and coaches motivation but also competition for places. Keane who hasn’t had a serious challenger for his place in some while. Holgate’s form might give him the motivation he needs to up his own game when he gets chance to return back to the playing 11.

What does Deeni coming back from injury mean to Watford ?

[hr]

Watford talisman Troy Deeney has returned to training ahead of clash with Norwich City, as part of a potential injury boost to struggling Watford team. The Hornets’ skipper had minor knee surgery in August, having played the opening two matches of the Premier League season, and has had to watch on as his team-mates have struggled.

Watford fans are looking for Deeney’s inspiration having scored 123 goals in 373 games during his nine years with the club, 37 of which were in the Premier League during the past four season. The experienced striker’s physical presence and leadership have played a major part in the Hornets becoming established in the top flight and reaching last season’s FA Cup final. Deeney enjoys ruffling the feathers of those he believes are not up for a fight. Asked about the striker, one agent who took a player to Watford in the summer said he goes out of his way to welcome new signings. He is brutally honest, too, telling team-mates he is not afraid to speak his mind.

[hr]

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: Over the period of Premier League seasons, role of captain’s leadership and toughness has seemed to diminish. Many of the Premier League’s captains now are chosen based on their seniority and encouraging their team mates to give their best on the pitch. Unlike previous decade where getting armband for a club was chosen specifically by the manager as that person who can command control , manager’s influence in the dressing room, at training, and most importantly on a match day. Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, John Terry used to wear their heart on their sleeve before every match. Troy Deeney seems to be one of the last few of that rough brigade who need to be admired and loved for their time.
