Roy Hodgson believes former club Liverpool have already started a dynasty under boss Jurgen Klopp and owners Fenway Sports Group. But the ex-Reds manager admits “it won’t be easy” for them to fend off the likes of Manchester City next season when they look to retain the title for the first time since 1984. But Hodgson is convinced Liverpool are in a golden period of the club’s history.
Roy Hodgson said “I think that era has already begun for two or three years, It didn’t take Jurgen long to stamp his mark on the club and move them very clearly in the right direction. Their recruitment in the past couple of years has been excellent, as we well as the production of young talent of their own, not least in Trent Alexander-Arnold. So the club is in a really good position, and I would be surprised if they were not looking now to produce a new dynasty, but it won’t be easy for them. There are several other teams with the potential to invest strongly in their teams, and also teams like Manchester City who are playing so well. But of course the team that has stood out this season is Liverpool because they have won the league by such a big margin, and I don’t think many people in football will deny them that success. The new owners came in when I was there and have done a remarkable job, there’s no question about that, I think a lot of credit has to be given to the owners for their investment and the wisdom of their choices in terms of appointing Jurgen Klopp, backing his judgement on bringing in the type of players that were needed to win the league. And now Liverpool, quite rightly, celebrates the success they’ve waited for for a long time.”
