Mauricio Pochettino has revealed how he plans to solve Chelsea’s woes in front of goal. The Blues has been heavily linked with numerous strikers recently as Nicolas Jackson continues to struggle. The 22-year-old, who Chelsea signed from Villarreal in the summer, has been shown more yellow cards than he has goals to his name in the Premier League this term – and now he’s set to miss the west Londoners’ next English top-flight clash against Fulham due to suspension. Following Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, Pochettino was asked how he intends to transform his side’s fortunes in the final third.

Mauricio Pochettino said: “Work. Giving trust and then confidence. We have the squad that we have. We cannot change anything. We try to build the confidence and to give them all of the support that they need because they need to perform on the pitch. The performance is good, I don’t want to say it is excellent, but we are missing being clinical in front of goal. We need to keep going, working. To find a solution, we start tomorrow again for the game Wednesday and build the belief and the confidence and the trust and hope we can score Wednesday.”

Armando Broja made his first Premier League appearance for Chelsea against Villa since November 2022. The 22-year-old is available for selection again after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury. With Jackson struggling to impress, Pochettino is looking forward to working with the Cobham graduate.

Mauricio Pochettino said: “I think was now was good to see Broja after nine or 10 months. I think to have the possibility to have different options in the team. He needs to build his confidence also. It’s about to learn, about the process. We are a young team that is in process needing to learn altogether. It is difficult to talk about positives because when you lose it is difficult.”

While Broja could be granted a valuable opportunity to impress over the coming weeks, Chelsea appear to still be in the market for a new striker ahead of the January transfer window. According to London World, the Blues are interested in Ivan Toney, who has been identified as Pochettino’s ideal talisman.

Fabrizio Romano has recently reported that Brentford are expected to demand in the region of £50million to £60million for the striker’s signature. The Italian journalist confirmed that Toney wants to leave the Bees, appointing a new agency to take care of his future.
