Wolves manager Gary O’Neil says his squad will be stronger by the end of the transfer window on Friday.

O’Neil hinted the club have players lined up before the deadline and he is excited by what could happen as they look to strengthen the squad.

News from Molineux has been dominated of late by the potential departure of Matheus Nunes who is wanted by Manchester City. Wolves have yet to receive a second offer from City, having rejected a £47m bid last week but, whatever happens with Nunes, O’Neil is upbeat about the transfer work put in place behind the scenes.

Gary O’Neil said: “I am excited because I am still convinced that, come the second of September, this squad will be in a better place than it was last week. I am excited for the next few days. I think we are well prepared. There has been some real good work that I have seen and I have helped with over the last couple of weeks so that we are able to do some bits and pieces and then respond if things move. We are well prepped for the next few days. Does that mean there are going to be loads of players arriving? Possibly, possibly not. But we are as well prepared as we can be for the end of the transfer window when things can move and change quickly.”

Wolves are through to the third round of the Carabao Cup after a convincing 5-0 win at home to League One Blackpool. They return to Premier League action on Sunday, away to Crystal Palace.
