Julen Lopetegui has stressed he hopes to stay at Wolves as talks continue about his future. The manager’s position has been in doubt since he revealed he’s been having talks with chairman Jeff Shi and has been made aware of an issue with Financial Fair Play that affects spending plans for the summer. It was a topic he addressed at his pre-match press conference before Sunday’s Arsenal game when he was asked if he wants to stay at the club.
Julen Lopetegui said: “I want to solve the problems, of course. Maybe I or the club can’t solve 100 per cent of the problems but I think we have to try, for our fans, for our club, for our history and our future. If we want to be demanding in the future, we have to demand now with ourselves. In the summer, we will see what is going to happen but the situation is I have a contract, I have been here for six months and very happy, and I hope I can continue being happy here,. But we have a problem and now we have to be honest and to look at each other in the eyes and try to solve the problems. Maybe we can’t solve 100 (per cent) of the problems, but maybe 80, yes. I don’t know. We will see.”
Wolves go into Sunday’s final game of the season in 13th , having been transformed under Lopetegui who took over in November when they were bottom of the table.
