Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has urged the supporters to keep the faith in his side’s push for the Premier League title, claiming “nothing is lost” after defeat to Manchester City. The Gunners fell to a 4-1 defeat against the champions at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, dealing a huge blow to their title chances. The north London outfit now sit just two points clear at the top of the table, with City holding two games in hand over them. Pep Guardiola’s side play one of those matches this weekend as they prepare to face Fulham, but he also reiterated the message that the title isn’t over yet.
Gabriel Jesus said: “It’s not over. It’ll be over when it’s over. We still have seven games. We have to do our game. I know what happened when we win at the Emirates… then we draw at Nottingham Forest. Now we go to Fulham against an incredible team. We’re taking nothing for granted. We’re happy for the last game and the performance but that is all. I know it’s not 20 games left, it’s seven, but seven games are seven games. Especially considering we have Champions League games and so on.”
It’s a similar message from a former player of his in Jesus, who has claimed the Gunners are still in the chase for the title.
Gabriel Jesus said: “Kind of difficult, however, nothing is lost, obviously. We know, it’s the Premier League, anything can happen from here until the end of the season. We know we’re ahead, however, they have two games in hand. We have to focus on our part, we got here by playing well, putting in effort, playing good games, creating situations, scoring goals, everyone together. That’s very important. Now it’s playing every game like a final, again. Unfortunately, the last few games haven’t been the way we wanted them to be, however, nothing is lost.”
The Gunners will need to turn their own form around if they are to have a chance, having gone four games without a win in the league. On top of that they need favours elsewhere to deny City from continuing their dominant charge at the top of the league, making a title win unlikely, but certainly not out of the picture.
