Brentford manager Thomas Frank says he “admires” Leicester City and that their struggles this season serve as an important reminder of how teams can suffer. Ahead of the match in London, Brentford boss Frank has delivered his verdict on City and their season so far. The manager pointed to the club’s achievements in recent years as well as picking out players who can cause his team problems this weekend.
Thomas Frank said: “First of all, Leicester is a club that has done fantastic and is a fantastic example of what is possible in football, with them winning the Premier League and also the FA Cup,” he said in his pre-match press conference. “Maybe even more impressive is after that when the classic top-six clubs stepped up with finances and really competed and, in that spell, twice, Leicester were so close to forcing their way into the Champions League. It’s a reminder, for me, that even with good players and a fantastic coach, it sometimes just doesn’t work completely for whatever reason, and I don’t know how you avoid it! But I admire Leicester as club, Brendan Rodgers as a coach – I think he’s done a fantastic job – and I think they have some fantastic players. I know [Youri] Tielemans is out but they have [James] Maddison, [Harvey] Barnes, [Kelechi] Iheanacho, Tete has come in, [Nampalys] Mendy and [Kiernan] Dewsbury-Hall in midfield – I think it’s a strong team. A very, very strong offensive team.”
Brentford currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League table as they push to play European football next season. The Bees came out as 2-0 winners over City’s relegation-rivals Southampton in Wednesday night’s Premier League clash.
