Caglar Soyuncu is working to help those affected by the devastating earthquake in his native Turkey with Brendan Rodgers pledging Leicester City’s support to the centre-back. Soyuncu thanked those who had contributed to the relief effort earlier this week,
Soyuncu wrote: From Leicester to my dear country Turkey, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to aid collection from the bottom of my heart. God bless you.”
City manager Brendan Rodgers has said the earthquake has had an impact on Soyuncu, who grew up in Izmir, in the west of the country. He said the defender is aware of the support he has in Leicester.
Brendan Rodgers said: “It’s been awful for him. I’ve been speaking to him a number of times this week and I’ve looked at some of the images that he showed me as well. It’s been devastating for him. Thankfully for him he’s had no close family or relatives there. But being from Turkey and understanding the grief that is going on back home, of course it’s made an impact on him. But he’s coping the best we could possibly hope for. I think he knows that everyone here at Leicester and in the whole country – he has that support. From a personal level he is looking to do everything he can to try and comfort some of those friends he has back home.”
Soyuncu has continued to train with City ahead of this weekend’s game against Spurs. He has only played two Premier League matches for the club this season, including seven minutes off the bench to help City see out last Saturday’s 4-2 win over Aston Villa.
