Aston Villa goalkeeper and stand-in captain Emiliano Martinez has said that Leicester City ‘deserved’ to take all three points from the Premier League encounter at Villa Park. At least two of City’s goals came from them stealing the ball from Villa high up the pitch, with the high press doing its job. It led to questions over if the opposition would continue to try and play out from the back, but World Cup winner Martinez has said that it is something that they will stick with.
Emiliano Martinez said: “It was a strange one, we had a good run in January and have been solid defensively and today mistakes cost us the game. We made more than one, Leicester deserve the win, they pressed really high. We are going to keep doing it.”
Emery also praised City for how they pressed the game and caused his team problems.
Unai Emery said: “Today was the reality. At home, we are sometimes winning, sometimes drawing and sometimes losing, as we did today. But to build possession with the ball and to try and control the game against the opposite side, like Leicester, who have good players and good organisation, it’s not easy. That’s the step up and the more difficult [challenges] we will have in front. We can be disappointed of course, at home with our supporters, we want to win and show that our best performances, but we are not doing 100 per cent.”
