Mikel Arteta has given his verdict on potential Arsenal signings in the summer following the closure of the January transfer window earlier this week. The Gunners welcomed three players to the club in January, with Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior and Jorginho all joining on permanent deals. However, it wasn’t a straightforward window for sporting director Edu. When asked if there is money to be spent in the summer in his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, Arteta insisted it was a question for Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke.
Mikel Arteta said: “That is a question for the owner! I don’t think it works like that. We need to maintain the discipline and respect what we believe is right and what we can afford and how we can evolve the squad we have, without putting ourselves in difficult positions.”
The Spaniard was then asked about the current squad and if he was satisfied with what was done in January.
Mikel Arteta said: “I am happy because I think we have added versatility, quality and leadership to the squad. And now we have to prove it. We have to give those players the chance to give a different edge to the team, to give us more options and have more capacity to change games and rotate the squad, because it is going to be needed. That is something we have to prove now.”
