David Moyes believes the brace Jarrod Bowen scored against Everton can kickstart his 2022/23 season after a poor start in front of goal. Bowen found the back of the net twice in the last Premier League outing against the Toffees and speaking ahead of the FA Cup fourth round tie against Derby County, Moyes says the brace should be good for the former Hull City star who he said has so far not had ‘acceptable’ numbers in front of goal this term.
David Moyes said: “I think for Jarrod [Bowen], when you think of the journey he’s had, the rise he’s had. Coming to West Ham, big step up, can you show you’re a player coming out of the Championship into the Premier League? I think Jarrod has shown he’s more than capable. He’s looked a really good player. Last year in the second half of the season he took over the goalscoring here, got us big goals, in Europe and in the league. To get named in the England squad and probably having a big hope that he would make the squad to go to the World Cup. He’s not performed well in the first half of the season and I still think he’s got a lot more to go again. But the one thing with Jarrod if you look through his career even when he was at Hull he’d score 10 goals, 12 or 13. He had a goalscoring record every year. And I’ve got to say for the first six months of this year he hadn’t scored. With those two goals he’s up to about five now? In the second half of the season if he starts getting close to those numbers where you’re saying that’s acceptable. But up until now his numbers haven’t been acceptable really.”
