Marc Guehi says Crystal Palace have to stay positive as they prepare to face Manchester United on Wednesday after a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea. Palace’s poor recent run continued as they lost out to a Kai Havertz goal at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea coming out on top in a game between two out-of-form sides in the Premier League. The result left Palace 12th in the table with 22 points from 18 games, but having only picked up three points from their four league games since the return of domestic club football after the World Cup. But Guehi felt the Eagles deserved more against his old side, with the Palace captain speaking about the positives there were for his side to take away from west London.
Marc Guehi said: “We definitely played well and competed with them. It’s always a difficult place to come to. We showed that spirit and togetherness in the game, and it’s unfortunate that we didn’t come away with at least a point in the game. Football is a harsh world. It comes down to the details, to both boxes, and in the end they were just better. We competed well, we definitely stayed in the game. We created a few chances ourselves – at half-time we felt good. It’s just frustrating to give away a goal, it doesn’t matter how it comes. We just have to keep going as a team, keep positive and hopefully we will get some results. Every game you take as it comes, and you learn from every game as it comes. It’s definitely something we will learn from. It could easily have turned in this game. Unfortunately it didn’t, but we just have to keep pushing as a team.”
The next chance for Palace to try and turn their form comes when Manchester United visit Selhurst Park for a rescheduled Premier League fixture on Wednesday night, before third-placed Newcastle United visit south London on Saturday.
