Unai Emery has stated that he has no intention of allowing Danny Ings to leave in the transfer window. The striker, Villa’s hero this evening against Wolves, has been the subject of transfer interest from Everton who, today, reportedly tabled a loan bid for the 30-year-old which was rejected. Reports via the Daily Mail and talkSPORT claim Villa are willing to let the ex-Liverpool forward depart – but only on a permanent deal to help fund Emery’s rebuild in attack. Asked if he expects Ings to depart this month,
Unai Emery replied: “I spoke with some players about the opportunity to leave but not with him. Today I think the first player who leaves is Cameron Archer (to Middlesbrough on loan) but I didn’t speak to Danny about it. The idea is to keep him in the squad.”
Pushed on if Villa have had a bid,
Unai Emery said: “I don’t know. The club hasn’t told me anything. Danny is a very good player in the first XI. Against Brighton he scored two goals and, usually, he gives impact and, today, we needed him and he helped the team like we needed. I’m really so happy with him, his commitment at the beginning and then his performances tonight.”
