Unai Emery has praised Robin Olsen’s performance in Aston Villa’s 2-0 away win at Tottenham Hotspur, but insists Emi Martinez will soon make a return to the Aston Villa starting line-up. Speaking of the decision to start Olsen,
Unai Emery said: “It was our plan and we prepared first. Emi Martinez rested for a few days after the World Cup and we prepared (for Spurs) before he played in the final. Robin was working as well and we were trying to give him confidence. The confidence is about showing on the pitch and playing like in today’s match. I think he really deserves this clean sheet and his performance was amazing as well. Our plan is to carry on with Emiliano Martinez. He’ll train tomorrow and Tuesday and he’s going to be closer to play with us but after the match we play today, we can play and believe in Robin Olsen.”
Asked if Olsen performance is giving him a difficult decision ahead of the Wolves match,
Unai Emery replied: “Yes but for us, Emiliano is very important. He is the No.1 but Robin knows his role and is very positive as a person. His role is very important as well and in matches like today, we need his performance. He was fantastic, Robin, what he achieved.”
