James Maddison will be ‘massive’ for England in the upcoming World Cup, according to international teammate Conor Coady. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Everton defender Coady says that as far as he is concerned all is ‘ok’ with Maddison’s fitness ahead of the game against Iran. The centre-back also spoke about the impression that the City man has left on the England squad in his first couple of training sessions.
Conor Coady said: “As far as I’m concerned, I’m sure the manager will tell you a lot more, but he’s been fantastic around the camp, Madders. We’ve seen in training the last couple of days the quality he has. I played against him two, three weeks ago for Everton and the quality he has got is absolutely incredible. As far as I’m aware he’s all ok. He’s a fantastic person, a fantastic player who’s going to be massive for us in this competition.”
Maddison has been one of the standout players in the Premier League so far this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 13 league appearances for City. His latest goal came in the 2-0 win over West Ham, just two days after his call-up to the England squad, it was that game that also saw him leave the pitch in the first half due to the knee injury. Speaking about the injury on Wednesday,
James Maddison said: “It’s ok. We had a scan the day before we met up, which was a positive scan. I had a little problem the week building up to the West Ham game, but I wanted to play, I didn’t want to not give it a go because of the World Cup. That is not the type of person I am, I didn’t want to have that attitude. I wanted to help Leicester because the focus was still there.”
