Aston Villa defender Ludwig Augustinsson has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo for his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, labelling it as ‘unnecessary’. Villa full-back Augustinsson was also asked about the interview while on international duty with Sweden. The nation are in action against Mexico and Algeria this week after failing to qualify for the World Cup.
Ludwig Augustinsson said: “It could have been handled much nicer. He knows that there will be such turbulence when he makes such statements. As a player in another team and from the outside, you think it feels unnecessary. I’m surprised because it feels so explosive. It’s a lot of things at once. There is so much talk about this. Certainly in the club and of course in the whole world, because he is one of the best players of all time. When me and Robin (Olsen) saw it in London, we were surprised. It could have been done better. You notice that he is frustrated.”
Augustinsson joined Villa on a season-long loan from Spanish side Sevilla back in the summer. He has played just twice in the Premier League so far this season, coming on as a second half substitute to help the team see out a 2-1 win over Brighton at the weekend.
