Mohamed Salah is hopeful Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur will be the turning point in their season after moving up to eighth in the Premier League. And the 30-year-old wants his team-mates to take the momentum from the victory over Spurs into the match with Southampton at Anfield next Saturday before the break for the World Cup.
Mohamed Salah said: “Hopefully! That’s football and we have to accept it. We have come back on a number of occasions with performances against Manchester City a couple of weeks ago, and we have to make sure that we continue that momentum next week before the World Cup break.”
The Egyptian’s first goal was an example of a perfect first touch. Salah took Darwin Nunez ‘s pass expertly in the box before firing beyond Hugo Lloris.
Mohamed Salah said: ” It’s important that you try to control in the smallest spaces as you can because as you get into the box there are a lot of bodies. I think in the second half I could have done it more, but I was confident I could have done it more if I was given the opportunities. I am always trying to have a good first touch because it puts me in a better position and I did that today.”
Despite scoring twice in the first period, Salah thought Liverpool could have got more, but he was happy with the three points at the end of the game.
Mohamed Salah said: “I think we were unlucky in the first half, we played good football in the first half and in the second I think we could have scored more. The most important thing was that we got the three points.”
