Tottenham 0 – Arsenal 1 – Debutant Eddie Mcgoldrick Gives Bragging Rights to Gunners in the North London Derby
Eddie Mcgoldrick helped end Arsenal’s White Hart Lane jinx on his Gunner’s league debut. With just three minutes left, the Irish international unhinged the Tottenham defence with a well-struck corner and Ian Wright directed the ball past stranded Spurs’ keeper Erik Thorstvedt with a glancing header.
The dramatic late goal gave Arsenal their first win of the season and their first victory at White Hart Lane in five seasons. There was a moment of controversy in the first half as well when Arsenal skipper Tony Adams’ shot appeared to cross the line before being chested away by Tottenham’s Colin Calderwood.
