Wout Faes is lapping up the appreciation of the Leicester City supporters, Timothy Castagne has said, revealing that the centre-back is going out of his way to get the crowd pumped up. And that appreciation is mutual. Castagne, an international colleague for Belgium as well as a club team-mate, has said that in the 2-0 win over Leeds, Faes went in for a 50-50 when the ball was heading out for a goal kick just so he could whip up the crowd.
Timothy Castagne said: “You see he likes it. I was laughing with him about a moment in the game against Leeds. He made a tackle where the ball was already going out. I said: ‘Why did you do that? Just to bring the crowd in?’ He said: ‘Yes!’ It’s nice to see they get a bit of excitement. It’s good to see that they’re enjoying it and it’s good to see he gets some motivation out of it. He’s made a big difference. He’s very aggressive. He’s always going into the duels. That’s what we want to see when we try to put pressure high. That helps a lot. On the ball, he takes it, he’s not scared of walking in and trying to find a good pass. That gives us confidence to try to play from the back.”
Faes could be exciting the City supporters for years to come. He signed a five-year deal with City upon his arrival from France, and his manager Brendan Rodgers is backing him to have a long and successful career at the King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers said: “Coming in so late in the window, he’s settled in really well. He’s a good player. He’s well educated in football and that’s what’s allowed him to settle in. He’s a leader and you don’t see so many in the modern game, but he genuinely is a guy who wants to lead on the field. His biggest attribute is that he loves to defend. He defends forward, he’s aggressive. And he can play football, he understands his passes. At 24, he can do really well here.”
