Conor Coady has spoken about the sequence of events that led to him leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window. Lage, of course, was recently sacked by Wolves, who are second from bottom of the Premier League table, with caretaker boss Steve Davis in charge until the new year. Frank Lampard’s Everton, meanwhile, are four points better off in 12th, with Coady playing all but one of their league fixtures up to now. Asked about his Wolves exit,
Conor Coady said: “It was a tough summer. When I went back – I went back a little bit later because we were away with England in the summer – I think the club were trying to change the way they wanted to play and evolve. I’ve been there when Wolves have evolved and we’ve done ever so well with it. I understand clubs have to evolve and different things. So I could feel something happening in the summer in regard to me and being a player and being a person, that I probably wasn’t going to be involved. I kind of went along in the summer kind of trying to figure out what was going on, because no-one really spoke or gave me anything. I was trying to figure out what was going on and then it came to a point at the end of pre-season where it was tough, because I’m just a player who loves playing footy. It’s so hard for me to go into training every day and not have something to be working towards at the end of the week. So it was kind of coming across that I wasn’t going to play and I wasn’t going to be involved nowhere near as much as I have done over the last few years. Wolves and myself came to a decision where they were happy with me going – and that was kind of it. I was so, so lucky that Everton came in. Listen, Wolves are a fantastic club filled with fantastic people, and it always will be. I love the place to bits but I was so lucky that Everton gave me the opportunity to come here and the manager (Lampard) did as well.”
