Ivan Toney has had an incredible rise through football. The Brentford striker received his first ever England call-up last week just four years after signing for Peterborough United. Toney is a huge fan of Kane and is now his England team-mate, and will be battling it out with him for a place in Southgate’s XI. Meanwhile, the Bees striker says he likes to adopt Drogba’s playing style from time to time.
Ivan Toney said: “I like a lot of strikers. I do like Harry Kane. When he gets a chance, nine times out of 10 it’s in the back of the net. I like the likes of Didier Drogba. I like to play his game sometimes – putting his body around, good in the air, [getting] in-behind, finishing. I watch all strikers and try and take tips from all strikers who have been involved in the game at the highest level.”
Toney will be linking up with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount for England’s Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany, and is excited to play alongside the best talents from the big six.
Ivan Toney said: “It’s massive. Big names that I’m playing with. I’ve got to take it in my stride and hopefully I’ll get some more playing time with them.”
