Pep Guardiola has been left impressed by Manchester City’s new-found ability earn points after falling behind. Guardiola has pointed out how his side wasn’t as resilient after falling behind when he first joined the club.
Pep Guardiola said: “The first years I was here we would never ever come back. We did not have the ability to come back. And now against Aston Villa [when we] were champions, West Ham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace. We can create momentums, Julian helped us, one extra body in the box. They defend the pockets really well with Bellingham and Ozak but the problem was we didn’t play with the rhythm, I try to tell them it is not done. Sule and Hummels, when you play with Bayern Munich you have to be a good player.”
Guardiola also explained what went wrong against Dortmund before his side managed to rescue the win.
Pep Guardiola continued: “We struggled. We played in the wrong gear and we are who we are, we can win or lose, when we play the last 35 mins we realise okay we are 1-0 down and subs come on and give a new rhythm. After you can lose but this is who we are, Champions League doesn’t wait, it doesn’t forgive you. We were not in the right tempo. The goal from John Stones, in the first half John Stones does not shoot but in that moment we were in the right rhythm. John was in the right rhythm and make an exceptional goal. We cannot make the 60-65 minutes we play, we are a different team. It is not about winning or losing, every day you have to perform well. It is a good lesson winning because we are in the perfect position, all respect for Copenhagen but we have six points, against Copenhagen we have the chance to go through and focus on Premier League.”
