Wesley Fofana has made comparisons between Leicester City and Chelsea’s systems after completing his £70million move to Stamford Bridge. Asked what role Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel played in transfer,

Wesley Fofana said: “I came here also largely for him. He is a coach that I appreciate, in his management, his way of getting his teams to play. There is already a relationship of trust with him. Chelsea’s system is quite similar to Leicester’s. He plans to use me in the three-man defence. I can play on the right or in the axis, I will adapt anyway.”

Fofana has three months to make a name for himself at Chelsea before the Premier League comes to an halt for the World Cup in November. The defender is yet to make his senior national team debut but will be keen on earning a place in Didier Deschamps’ squad. Asked if the World Cup was his goal,

Wesley Fofana replied: “Sure! I want to represent my country. I’m not obsessed with that, I’ve come back from so far away, from seven months of rehabilitation. I know it’s going to be complicated, that there are a lot of great players in my position, but I’m going to fight with my weapons to try to convince the coach.”

Marcos Alonso has sent a goodbye message to fans after he completed a free transfer to Barcelona following an agreement to terminate his Chelsea contract. Following his move to the Camp Nou, Alonso has posted a goodbye message to Chelsea fans on social media.

Marcus Alonso statement read: “Can’t thank you enough for the six years we spent together. It’s been a real honour to defend the blue colour around the world and to write the history of this great club. Special mention to Mr. Roman Abramovich and Antonio Conte for giving me the chance at the very beginning. All the people at the club, stadium and training ground thank you. Managers, teammates, medical staff lead by Dr. Paco Biosca, kitmen etc… it was a pleasure to share the changing room with you all these years. Of course, to the fans thank you for your support since day one. It’s thanks to you that Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world so keep the blue flag flying high. Yours forever, running down the left wing for you. M.”

Alonso excelled for the Blues in the left-wing back role and proved to be clinical from set-pieces, popping up with crucial goals throughout his time at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard decided to terminate his contract and begin a new challenge with Barcelona after coming to a mutual agreement with Chelsea on deadline day.
