Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s former Manchester United teammate Mark Lynch has revealed that Solskjaer’s success as a manager has surprised him and he did not see it coming during their playing days.
Mark Lynch said ” He’s not one of the players I would have looked back on and thought he is going to be a top, top manager, But I think when you look at footballers and the transition of going from footballer to being a manager, being a good player doesn’t make you a good manager. I wouldn’t have put Ole down as the next Manchester United manager from that team of ’99 or from even the 2000s, but clearly he’s got something that makes him good at what he does. I just think it is a funny one. Manchester United is Manchester United, I think it is just really important to have someone who knows the club in charge. Even from being at different clubs, Man United is a different club to any of the others I have been at. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t been at any other clubs in terms of the stature of United, but it is just the way they play football, the history. I just think when you bring someone in away from that the club loses its identity a little bit. I would say the players would want to play for him for what he has done at the club, so I think because he has got that he is in a good place.”
Lynch started his career at United but after failing to secure a permanent first-team spot as a right-back during Gary Neville’s prime days, he moved to Scottish football before coming back to England to play with Sunderland and Hull City.
