According to Paul Scholes, Brazil legend Ronaldinho could have been a Manchester United player. Scholes says that the playmaker was all set for a transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2003 – replacing David Beckham, who had just moved to Real Madrid. But the switch collapsed – and Ronaldinho opted for Barcelona instead, who paid £25m for him. In his five years there, he won two La Liga titles as well as the Champions League.
Paul Scholes said “We were as a close as announcing him and giving him a number but I think he ended up changing his mind at the last minute and signed for Barcelona. We were all excited – Ronaldinho, what a player! I think he was coming from PSG at the time and we were all going to get to play with him and he’s going to bring something special.
