Harry Maguire is expecting Erik ten Hag to bring ‘positive energy’ to Manchester United. After being named as United’s next permanent manager in April, Ten Hag was officially unveiled at Old Trafford last week and has begun work at his new club. The Dutchman has a massive job on his hands to turn the team’s fortunes around after a disastrous season. Morale amongst the squad has been at rock bottom for months but captain Maguire expects the mood to change under Ten Hag.
Harry Maguire said: “The new manager will bring in a lot of positive energy the lads will go with that,” the centre-back said. We had all great, positive vibes going into the season under Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], we actually started the season, points-wise really well. Things went from a positive start to a bad start really quickly, we were conceding too many goals, not scoring enough goals, and it just spiralled. We can look at individual performances but I think every player at the club has not performed to a level, that’s apart from Cristiano [Ronaldo] with his goals.”
Maguire has come in for heavy criticism after a difficult season, with even his captaincy of the club coming into question. Yet, Ten Hag had nothing but praise for him in his first press conference.
Erik Ten Hag said: “He did a great job, he is a great player, achieved a lot with a contribution to Manchester United. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
