Paul Pogba is aiming to become the best player in the world when he returns from an ankle injury.Pogba, 27, has not started for Manchester United since their 1-1 draw with Arsenal on September 30 and he managed two substitute appearances either side of Christmas before a recurrence of an ankle problem. Pogba underwent surgery at the start of January that sidelined him for more than two months.cThe France international has not played since a 45-minute outing against Newcastle on Boxing Day and United coped superbly without Pogba following the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in late January, beating Chelsea and Manchester City in an 11-match unbeaten run.
Pogba expressed a desire to leave United last summer but his agent Mino Raiola failed to engineer a move to Real Madrid and the coronavirus pandemic could keep the midfielder in Manchester until next year. Pogba’s absence has been so prolonged he is especially eager to play again amid a possible Premier League restart next month.
“I have goals, and I’ve been injured for seven months, seven to eight months. So I’m more hungry now, you know. I want to come back and obviously do great. I’ve been missing a lot of games, and I want to be the best obviously. So when I will come back I want to be the best and when I’m at home there’s no excuse.I’ve been injured for more than five months? So proper injured, no football. I’ve been in a cast. So I’ve been training by myself for, like, probably seven months, and when I was going back to the pitch, the problem arrived of corona, so we had to stop everything [and] since we’ve been in quarantine. I’ve been in the house working. I made a little pitch in my house, a football pitch so I can train, it’s like a small mini-football pitch where I just now play with my son, we’re just playing inside. We just go in there and there are balls everywhere and you play. With my wife sometimes we do yoga stretches.”
Pogba has uploaded training videos of himself in quarantine doing ball-work at his Cheshire home on an indoor mini pitch and he has also taken up yoga with his wife, Zulay.
