The agent of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has spoken out on the future of his client amid rumours of a potential exit this summer. The Italian currently has just over one year remaining on his current deal, casting doubt over his stay at Stamford Bridge. In the past year the midfielder finally earned recognition, placing third in the Ballon d’Or while helping Chelsea to a Champions League triumph as well as a European Championships win with Italy. His importance is something that Thomas Tuchel has gone on the record to praise in recent weeks.

Thomas Tuchel said: “He [Jorginho] played injured, sacrificed for the team [this season]. I think you see it now. You can never underestimate how much pressure is on playing for the national team, the country, for Italy. The demands are high after big success like winning the Euros.”

With only one year remaining on his deal, along with midfield partner N’Golo Kante, Tuchel stands at a crossroads with his squad, with a decision to make over how he can freshen it up. And, with uncertainty as to where Jorginho could be, his agent, Joao Santos, has revealed that his priority is to stay at Chelsea. Speaking to 1 Station Radio, via Calciomercato,

Joao Santos said: “He still has one year on his contract with the Blues , the priority is renewal. At the moment, however, Chelsea cannot operate on the market for issues arising from the sale of Abramovich, so we will meet with the company to discuss it. He played six or seven years of high-level football, he also plays in the Premier League, which is certainly a more important league than the Italian one. Without forgetting that he is also European champion and the year before won the Champions League. Juventus? The Juventus managers didn’t call me, surely because they know that at Chelsea at the moment nothing can be done without a license for the transfer market.”

It remains to be seen as to whether the Blues will offer him a new deal in the future, though the summer transfer window could be a huge indicator as to where his future may lie.
