Thomas Tuchel was left frustrated that his side did not capitalise on their performance to come away with a win against Leicester. The Chelsea boss believed his side deserved to win after coming from behind through Marcos Alonso’s goal but could not find the all-important winner at Stamford Bridge. Nevertheless, Tuchel was content with the point his team earned on the night to secure third place. Only a final defeat and dramatic swing in goal difference would see Tottenham with the opportunity to overtake Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel said: “We were the better team and deserved to win. We did what was needed. We needed a point, and we got a point. We didn’t allow anything, no chances. We got punished by a shot from outside the box and created enough to win. We didn’t allow transition or chances for Leicester, so I am fine with the performance. It’s a bit of a broken record: we did not take what we deserved. I think that was okay, what we did.”
Leicester City head coach Brendan Rodgers thought his side were well worth their point, however. The former Liverpool boss believed that his side restricted the Blues of high-quality opportunities. Rodgers did concede that Pulisic had a big opportunity to change the match.
Brendan Rodgers said: “We had to battle, really hard. They’re obviously a top-class side. We got off to a great start with an outstanding goal, and you know for long periods, you will have to defend. I just said at half-time, we need more belief with the ball and a bit more quality. Our defending was good, with good structure to it and good concentration, when we had to get the contact on it we did do. There was probably only really the once chance in the second half that flashed across from Pulisic, who should probably score. Apart from that, we managed the pressure really well. Like I say, the second-half showed a bit more quality with the ball and a bit better quality in the final third we might have got through a little bit more. Really hard-earned, had to battle, and we earned it.”
