Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that full-back Nuno Tavares has the most powerful shot at the club. The Portuguese youngster has had a tough debut season with the Gunners, looking to build upon his experience gained. The 22-year-old made the £7million move to the Emirates last summer, offering a promising future option on the left as well as some cover for Kieran Tierney. In that time, he has made 21 league appearances, though his performances have often been hit and miss, occasionally being brought off early. Discussing his displays,
Mikel Arteta said: “Throughout your career you have to go through difficult moments. He’s [Tavares] had some really good periods since he arrived at the club and he was playing many more minutes than he was probably expecting. That’s the life of a player, especially at that age. There’s ups and downs and we are here to try and help him and make his career better, and that’s what we’re going to do. His confidence probably wasn’t the best because he wasn’t playing a lot of minutes and he needs the rhythm, the competition and the understanding with his teammates.”
While he still has plenty of room to grow, Ramsdale has praised Tavares, claiming he is the player with the most powerful shot in training.
Aaron Ramsdale said: “Tavares, wow. Right foot, left foot, 40 yards away or 20, he just whacks it.”
That was on display against Manchester United, where the full-back gave the side the lead in a crucial game. He arrived late, smashing the ball in from close range, showing his ability in front of goal. If he can improve other elements of his game, Tavares could be a huge player for the future, though it remains to be seen if he can fulfil that potential.
