The relegation battle for 18th place in the Premier League could be between just Leeds United and Burnley at the end of the weekend. In his pre-match press conference, Frank Lampard was asked what it would be like to confirm top-flight safety on Sunday.
Frank Lampard said: “It would be great, but it’s all ifs and buts. It’s our job to get across the line and that’s for sure on Sunday or next Thursday. It’s up to us to make that happen. We are not underestimating Brentford, they’re a fantastic team and have a fantastic coach. They’re just a really good team.”
The Everton boss also had fitness updates for a few of his players.
Frank Lampard added: “Fabian [Delph] won’t be fit against Brentford. We will see for the rest of the season. Ben Godfrey is close. He could possibly be in the squad, Van de Beek is getting closer – I would like to think he could be involved on Sunday.”
As Leeds fans know better than anyone, injuries can be so detrimental at this stage of the season and those inside Elland Road on Sunday will take some comfort from that injury update from Lampard. However, they also know that Everton hold a significant advantage in the relegation battle at the moment.
