Aston Villa have offered new contracts to Ashley Young and Carney Chukwuemeka, according to reports. Young’s future looks more easier to secure, however, with Gerrard admitting talks have taken place about him remaining in the West Midlands.
Steven Gerrard said: “There have already been discussions. I’ve made it clear to Ash that I want him to stay around. The key to this will always be the player. He has to be happy, want to stay, negotiate and have his people connect to the club. There’s still a lot to discuss moving forward and here’s no rush but I’ll make it clear that we’re very happy with him.”
News of the double contract offer comes after Villa completed the signing of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona for 20 million Euros. He has taken a 70 per cent cut on his reported £470,000-a-week salary in Spain in order to seal his move to Villa and he now fits in with the club’s wage structure.
Steven Gerrard said: “Phil is a model professional and his impact on the group has been very clear since he joined in January. With the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch, he’s also a valuable role model for our younger players who can only benefit from his experience. As we look to build towards next season, it is incredible to work at a club that executes its business so decisively and smoothly.”
