Frank Lampard accepted there was frustration in the Everton dressing room but believes the draw at Watford represented another step forward in the club’s survival bid. The hosts had lost their last eleven matches at Vicarage Road while the Blues arrived in Hertfordshire having ended a miserable away run at Leicester City on Sunday. Speaking after the match, Lampard stressed the positives from a run that has seen Everton take 11 points from their last 16 games – and the importance of the club’s destiny remaining in its own hands.

Frank Lampard said: “I sensed their [the players’] frustration because the lads are in there, they want to do it, they want a run, they are feeling it – they wanted to come here and win. It was for me to say to say, a man of experience, it doesn’t work that way… that’s the nature of the position we are in. It’s a tense situation. We are playing against a team with nothing to lose – as much as they had nothing to gain they had nothing to lose. We toiled and kept trying to play and produce in the final third and we were slightly off, but I was thinking after the game – you offer us seven points from Chelsea, Leicester and Watford, we bite your hand off. You offer us the position we are in now – to have it in our own hands with two games up at Goodison – we would bite your hand off.”

Lampard said the hard work would now continue ahead of the match with Brentford on Sunday

Frank Lampard added: “The biggest danger to us is complacency. There was certainly no complacency tonight. If anything there was a bit of a tension that was difficult for is to go against.”
