Pep Guardiola has gone on the charm offensive before Manchester City’s trip to Molineux on Wednesday evening. Guardiola labelled the game against Wolves a “cup final” earlier this week and the City boss is expecting a tough test for a number of reasons. Wolves cut a run of three straight defeats with a point at Chelsea over the weekend, but Bruno Lage must mastermind a win over one of the top two to stand any chance of reeling in seventh-placed West Ham.

Pep Guardiola said: “It’s not just about the last result, but they were really good at Stamford Bridge. Wolves, since they were promoted to the Premier League, is one of the toughest opponents we have faced. For many reasons; (Pedro) Neto is back, (Raul) Jimenez is always dangerous, the transitions of (Leander) Dendoncker, the quality from (Joao) Moutinho and (Ruben) Neves, the switches of play and the counter-plays, the personality, the competitiveness, the back five that’s had many years playing this system. It’s one of the toughest away games that we have in the season and we have it right now. But at the same time we know how important it is. Hopefully we recover well and play a good game.”
